Greenwich Police charged Stefano Cortes-Munoz, age 30, of Santiago, Chile, with felony larceny and burglary in the Wednesday, May 18, 2022 burglary of a home in Greenwich.
Capt. John Slusarz of the Greenwich Police said the group forced open a rear window and stole a safe containing several pieces of high-end jewelry.
The scene was processed by detectives and Cortes-Munoz was later identified and an arrest warrant was then obtained, Slusarz said.
By then Cortes-Monoz had left the area and allegedly continued to commit crimes across the country.
He was recently captured by authorities in West Virginia where Greenwich Police traveled to pick him up.
Last year, Greenwich police warned residents of so-called "tourist burglars" who work for out-of-country crews targeting high-end homes where no one is home and don't have large security systems.
During the announcement last year, police said Cortes-Munoz was wanted in the Old Greenwich burglary.
He is being held on a $2.5 million bond which he could not make.
